PHOTOGRAPHING THE ORION NEBULA

This guide explains how to photograph the Orion Nebula using a DSLR and tripod. The Nebula is a bright, easily photographed star birthplace, listed as M42 in the Messier Catalogue. It’s best visible in winter and can be captured with basic camera settings and lens on a tripod. After taking numerous light and calibration frames, post-processing with GIMP refines the final image, resulting in a rewarding astrophotographic accomplishment.
